By restricting the color palette as much as possible and opting for a coarser canvas, the number of possible outcomes is more limited. The intention is to retain the nostalgic pixel art look, create more color matching possibilities, all while maintaining enough space for mouth & eye expressions. And the best part? This is all done while still having 150+ traits in the collection.
Consistency is a crucial element in creating a cohesive collection of artwork. There are two main stylistic choices that help create this unity: shadows and borders. The color codes of both elements are not chosen at random... they are mathematically derived. Shadows on all traits have 10% less lightness and borders have 30% less lightness than the color it is bordering. The vast majority of pixel art collections have black borders, but opting for a colored border creates clearly defined trait boundaries and an overall brighter image.
There's nothing worse than earning a whitelist for the next best project, waking up at 3AM for the launch, and minting a whack-ass dumpster fire of an NFT. My ambition was to make every single generated artwork "clean". I do this by creating hundreds of layering conventions that allow neutral colors to match with anything and colored traits to only match with neutrals & like-colors. Trust me... a ushanka wearing Chump looks like ass with MOG glasses.
